SYLVIA Vs. NOGUEIRA
SYLVIA AND NOGUEIRA TO BATTLE FOR INTERIM HEAVYWEIGHT BELT
The big men are back, and on Saturday, February 2nd, not only will fight fans see the UFC debut of Brock Lesnar when he squares off against former heavyweight champion, Frank Mir, but they will witness the crowning of a new King of the Heavyweights when two-time champion Tim "The Maine-iac" Sylvia battles former PRIDE champion Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira for the Interim UFC Heavyweight Championship of the world in the main event of UFC 81: BREAKING POINT.
The most dominant heavyweight champion in UFC history, Tim Sylvia (26-3) will attempt to become only the second man to win the crown three times when he faces Nogueira on February 2. An intimidating force at 6' 8", 260 pounds, the Ellsworth, Maine native has scored wins over Andrei Arlovski (twice), Ricco Rodriguez, and Jeff Monson over the course of his seven year MMA career, which includes two reigns as UFC champion and three title defenses. In his last bout, at UFC 77 in October, he handed rising star Brandon Vera the first loss of his career via an impressive unanimous decision.
A future Hall of Famer looking to become the first fighter to ever hold both the UFC and PRIDE heavyweight championship belts, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil's Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (30-4-1) is one of the greatest fighters ever to put on the gloves. A seven year veteran who has turned back the challenges of Mirko "Cro Cop", Mark Coleman, Dan Henderson, Josh Barnett, and Fabricio Werdum, Nogueira - who decisioned Heath Herring in his UFC debut last July - now wants to add Sylvia to his victims list.
