MIRKO "CRO-COP" AND QUINTON "RAMPAGE" JACKSON TO MAKE UFC® DEBUT
This comeback story will not only be real, it will be " As Real as it Gets®" when The Ultimate Fighter® 4 "The Comeback" winners, Matt Serra and Travis Lutter cash in on their prize and take on reigning UFC Champions, Georges St. Pierre and Anderson Silva, respectively, for a shot at the UFC world titles. They will have nothing to lose and everything to gain when the Ultimate Fighting Championship® organization presents UFC 67: ALL OR NOTHING live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Saturday, February 3.
The incredible debut of two fighters new to the UFC, but definitely no strangers to the world of mixed martial arts was also announced. On the same card, Mirko "Cro-Cop" and Quinton Jackson will step into the Octagon™ for the first time in their historic breakout fight. Mirko "Cro-Cop" will take on Eddie Sanchez and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson will face Marvin Eastman.
"I want all the best fighters in the UFC," said Dana White, UFC President. "This proves it. UFC 67 not only gives two comeback fighters the chance to show they really are the best, but it also brings Mirko "Cro-Cop" and "Rampage" to the UFC to prove they are among the best heavyweights and light heavyweights in the sport. This is just the start of 2007; UFC fans are in for an exciting year."
UFC 67: ALL OR NOTHING features the two championship bouts: Georges "Rush" St. Pierre vs. Matt "The Terror" Serra and Anderson "The Spider" Silva vs. Travis Lutter.
St. Pierre (13-1) has aggressively fought to win the UFC Welterweight title, defeating former champion, BJ Penn, Jason Miller, Frank Trigg, Sean Sherk, and most recently, the legendary Matt Hughes. He has no plans to give up his newly earned title when he takes on Long Islander, Matt Serra, who carries a 15-4 record including victories over the highly touted Yves Edwards and Ivan Menjivar. Serra reached the Ultimate Fighter 4 semi-finals by defeating Pete Spratt via tapout due to strikes, and then avenged his previous loss to Shonie Carter by defeating him with a series of takedowns and scoring a unanimous decision with the judges. He faced Chris Lytle in The Ultimate Fighter 4 finals and defeated him by split-decision, thus earning a chance at a title shot in the process. Now, Serra takes on the toughest fight of his career in an attempt to make a true comeback when he squares off against St. Pierre on February 3rd.
Silva (17-4) defeated Rich Franklin by first-round KO at UFC 64 to become the new UFC Middleweight Champion. He is an extremely well-rounded fighter with phenomenal striking skills and is looking to make Lutter his first successful title defense. Lutter (12-3) has fought all over the world including Brazil, Denmark, Japan and England. He made his UFC debut with a victory over Marvin Eastman at UFC 50 in October 2004. During The Ultimate Fighter 4, Lutter used his world-class Jiu-Jitsu skills to dominate all three rounds against Team Mojo's Pete "Drago" Sell and punch his ticket to the finals in Las Vegas. There, he submitted Canadian Patrick Cote by armlock at 2:18 of the first round.
The UFC 67: ALL OR NOTHING card also features the highly anticipated UFC debut of two top-tier fighters, Mirko "Cro-Cop" and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.
Mirko "Cro-Cop" is cosidered worldwide as one of the top heavyweights in mixed matial arts today. Notorious for his devastating striking skills -- especially his high kicks -- which he used to knock out Aleksander Emelianenko and most recently, Vanderlei Silva, Mirko "Cro-Cop" storms into the UFC ready to battle anyone who dares to oppose him. Eddie Sanchez is a freestyle fighter with heavy hands who always comes to bang. Undefeated with a 8-0 mixed martial arts record, Sanchez is confident that if he lands his right hand, the fight will be over and he will have a marquis win over Mirko "Cro-Cop" on his record.
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson is known and respected for his raw strength, power slams, and equal striking ability. He marches into the UFC with a motive and a plan to capture the UFC light heavyweight crown. He is prepared to wipe out all the top 205-pounders the UFC puts before him, and blaze a path to a much desired title shot. Marvin Eastman is a mixed martial arts veteran who is recognized for pushing the pace and for using his striking power to score ferocious knockouts. He will step into the Octagon ready to do battle with Jackson and establish his name as a top fighter in the UFC.
The remaining bouts for UFC 67: ALL OR NOTHING will be announced in the near future. All bouts are subject to change. |
