TIM SYLVIA vs. JEFF MONSON

Tim Sylvia vs Jeff Monson

TIM SYLVIA
Record: 24-2-0
6' 8 "
265 Lbs.
Age: 30
From: Davenport, Iowa

UFC Heavyweight Champion, Tim Sylvia, took the hard road to the top. He won the belt as a severe underdog against Ricco Rodriguez in only his second UFC fight. After some setbacks, Sylvia regained his title by knocking out Andrei Arlovski. Quick to prove that result wsn't a fluke, he stepped right back into the Octagon with Arlovski again 3 months later and pounded out a 5-round unanimous decision victory.

The next hurtle Sylvia must conquer is world champion grappler, Jeff Monson, a man who enters this contest on a 16-fight win streak.

JEFF MONSON
Record 24-5-0
5' 9 "
240 Lbs.
Age: 33
From: Olympia, Washington

Jeff "The Snowman" Monson has not lost a fight in over four years. In that time, he has won 16 straight fights, with 13 coming y way of submission or knockout. Monson is one of the best grapplers in the world and could pose a seriouse threat to Sylvia's title reign if he is able to get the fight to the ground. Despite being a world champion grappler, Monson also has very capable standing skills. He exhibited his punching power against Marcio Cruz at UFC 59, a 3-round decision that was fought mostly standing.

But, will Monson be able to handle Sylvia's sizeable reach advantage?
