Franklin won the belt in June 2005 with a TKO victory over then-champion, Evan Tanner in the fourth round.

After serving as a coach on the second season of The Ultimate Fighter™, Franklin made his first title defense at UFC 56 in November 2005. He knocked out highly-touted Nate Quarry in just over 2 minutes.

On March 4, Franklin leads Team USA into battle and hopes to add another knockout to his record.
