HOPKINS OUTPOINTS, OUT-PUNCHES WINKY
Bernard Hopkins, now 48 - 41 with 32 KO's continued his amazing career by scores of 117-111, 117-111 and 116-112 over Winky Wright. We swcored it 116-113 for B-Hop.
Hopkings frustrated Wright all night long with his punch and grab with the occasional headbutt thrown in for good measure. Winky never realy got into the fight for more than a round and then would seemingly take the next two rounds off.
Hopkins really won the fight on the inside but did land a number of good right-hand leads. Winky, the smaller man in this affair, seemed to wilt going down the stretch and Hopkins punctuated the win sweeping at least 3 of the last 4 rounds.
Thought there were no knockdowns, Wright sustained a nasty cut over his left eye in round three, which seemed to bother him the rest of the night.
The fight, particularly the last 4 rounds, was better than anticipated for these two defensive masters.
We have the distinct feeling we haven't heard the last of Hopkins.
