MARQUEZ DE-THRONES BARRERA

In a quality and world-class fight, Juan Manuel Marquez won the WBC super-feather title by decisioning Marco Antonio Barrera by scores of 118-109, 116-111 and 116-111.

The fight was much closer than what the judges indicated and a rematch will certainly be in order. Barrera seemed to be in control after the first half of the contest but in a very strange 7th round, with Marquez rallying and throwing heavy combinations, a Barrera right hand landed flush on Marquez's jaw and down went Juan. Refereee Jay Nady, totally confused, ruled it a no-knockdown and in fact, took a point off Barrera for hitting Marquez as he was regaining his feet.

A terrific fight which boxing sorely needed, despite the unusual judges scorecard.

Marquez goes to 47-3 (35 KO's) as Barrera slips to 63-5 (42 KOs).
