SWEET AS SUGAR
"Sugar" Shane Mosley used a lightning left hook which landed solidly and square on Fernando Vargas' chin in the sixth round, stopping Vargas cold.
Vargas stumbled up after a seemingly long count, and Mosley pounced upon the helpless Vargas. After a flurry of combinations, referee, Kenny Bayliss had seen enough and promptly stopped the contest.
Up to that point, Vargas had not won a round as Mosley used his speed and aggression to frustrate his opponent. Using a lightnig left jab and right-hand leads, Mosley had it all his way. It was a much easier fight for Shane than the first encounter.
Mosley will take the rest of the year off and drop down to welterweight, a division more suited to his liking.
For Vargas, this may very well be the end of the road. The punishment he has received in his short but exciting career appears to have caught up to him.
A big welterweight title fight for Mosley with feared champion, Antonio Margarito, may be next for "Sugar".
