TRINIDAD vs WRIGHT
THE RESULT
Felix Trinidad vs Winky Wright
Saturday, May 14,2005
Winky Wright who said this was the biggest fight of his career and would beat Felix Trinidad did just that in a very convincing manner that no one could have predicted.
Moving behind his right jab which befuddled Trinidad the entire night, the fight became an absolute route from start to finish. Wright so dominated, that Trinidad was awarded only a single round in the entire fight and was soundly beaten by the thoroughly dominating Wright.
Trinidad, who entered the fight as the favourite was given a boxing lesson to remember and it appeared that Wright could hit him at will over the twelve rounds. Trinidad's face was used as a punching bag all evening long.
There was a rematch clause in the contract, but after this one-sided drubbing, there is no need of a repeat performance.
After this fight, Trinidad must consider retirement, and Wright will have difficulty getting anyone to fight him for the kind of money Wright will expect. Winky is a gifted, slick, experienced boxer, but unfortunately, has no real knockout power and is not particularly exciting to watch, except for boxing purists.
