"PRETTY UGLY"
Floyd Mayweather said all along to anyone who cared to listen that this fight with Arturo Gatti, would be a mismatch. He was right! Gatti, leaving his "Thunder" somewhere either than in Atlantic City, took a one-sided drubbing, by the faster, more skilled self-proclaimed "Pretty Boy".
Gatti, the fan favourite, cheered on by a packed house of 13,000, quit after the sixth round, the fight being stopped by his trainer, Buddy McGirt. Just as well as Gatti was hopelessly belted around the ring from pillar to post.
The first round was a slow affair until Gatti was hit with a left hook following a clinch. Gatti, stopping to complain to the ref, dropped his hands and Mayweather promptly floored him with a left hook. Gatti was given the mandatory 8-count. Gatti's left eye was swollen at this point and as Mayweather tattooed him throughout the contest, Gatti's face continually became more marked.
It truly was incredibly one-sided and Mayweather's speed and accuracy was just too much throughout. He used Gatti's head as target practice and it was just a matter of how much punishment Gatti would take. Arturo Gatti did not win a single moment of any round and was clearly out of his class. At no time, did he threaten Mayweather and he was outpunched by a conservative 5 to 1 ratio.
Mayweather will now dominate this division. For Gatti, he will continue as his fan base will still support him but he has been exposed.
