MARGARITO VS. CINTRON

THE RESULT

Antonio Margarito vs Kermit Cintron
Shane Mosley vs David Estrada
Jameel McCline vs Calvin Brock
Saturday, April 23,2005

The ESPN debut into pay-per-view boxing was high quantity and high quality as advertised.

In an intriguing 10-round heavyweight bout, Olympian and undefeated Calvin Brock went up against top ten ranked, Jameel "Big Time" McCline. Brock was cut over his left eye in the first round, but refused to let his sharp and accurate punching curtail. It was a closely contested bout highlighted by McCline's left hook in the 7th which dropped Brock for an 8-count. Amazingly, this seemed to spur Brock on, who not only won the remainder of the round, but swept the the last 3 rounds to secure the win.

The return of Sugar Shane Mosley against the tough David Estrada was a statement of experience over youthful aggression. Estrada got off to an early sart and was slightly ahead going into round four. In the the fourth, however, his plan to back Mosley up all night proved to be his downfall as Mosley's timing returned and he stunned Estrada with powerful left hooks to the body which seemed to not only stagger Estrada but also to slow him down. Mosley really took over the last half of the fight and though Estrada never gave up, he came up short. Mosley swept the last four rounds of the fight to win comforably on all three judges' scorecards.

The main event saw Antonio Margarito defend his title for the fourth time against the thunderous punching but youthful Kermit Cintron. When the dust settled, the underated experienced champion, Margarito, flattened Cintron four times, blood flowing over Cintron's left eye and mercifully, the corner of the challenger stopped the one-sided fight with 30 seconds left in the fifth. It was the first loss for Cintron who clearly just wasn't in the same league with the skilled Margarito.
