KLITSCHKO vs WILLIAMSON
THE RESULT
Wladimir Klitschko vs DaVarryl Williamson
Saturday, October 2, 2004
Wladimir Klitschko ended the night's work in five rounds but did not look like a happy winner. An accidental headbutt only seconds before the end of the fifth round which opened a severe gash almost down to the bone above his right eye ended matters. The judges went to the scorecards and after the tallying up, he won a split technical decision.
It was a dull affair with Williamson doing little the first three rounds. In the fourth, DaVarryl Williamson landed one of the few right hands and dropped the seemingly off-balanced Klitschko for the fight's only exciting moment.
Should Klitschko want to be fighting for a world title in the future, he's got plenty of work to do.
In the earlier bouts, Jeff Lacy defeated Canada's Syd Vanderpool to win the vacant IBF super middleweight title when the fight was stopped in the eighth round.
Kassim Ouma won the IBF junior middleweight title by unanimous decision over Verno Phillips. |
