KLITSCHKO vs WILLIAMS
THE RESULT
Vitali Klitschko vs Danny Williams
Saturday, December 11, 2004
WBC Heavyweight Champ, Vitali Klitschko dished out a brutal beating of hurt to England's Danny Williams, and finally stopped the game Brit in the eighth round.
Williams was down a total of four times in the one-sided contest, but kept getting up. The initial knockdown came in the first round and from that point on, Williams was used as a human punching bag. Bravery is one thing, but taking a pounding for as long as he did, causes one to wonder what in the world Williams' corner was thinking about as they kept sending him out for more.
Mercifully, referee Jay Nady used common sense, and after Williams was drilled by a Klitschko right hand and fell under the ropes, Nady called the fight off, saving Williams from more punishment.
Klitschko even with his highly unorthodox fighting style, will no doubt raise his claims to being "the" heavyweight champion of the world, but one cannot help but think he is still a very vulnerable champion. |
