Arturo "Thunder" Gatti was bigger, stronger and younger than Leonard Dorin, so why did so many pundits of the sport choose Leonard "The Lion" to upset the popular kingpin of the super lightweights?

Arturo, who resides in New Jersey, by way of Montreal, entered the ring to a huge ovation and packed house of over 12,000 fans jammed into the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Leonard entered to a chorus of jeers and boos.

After a fairly uneventful first round, during which Arturo stuck strictly to boxing his smaller opponent and easily avoiding his opponent's lunges, Arturo began his surge early into the second round. Still boxing, but now beginning to throw combinations at the well protected head of Leonard, he landed a huge left hook under the Romanian's ribs and absolutely paralyzed him. Leonard wobbled, went to one knee, and then proceeded to crawl to the ropes. Referee, Randy Newman counted to ten and that was that.

The Montreal native, the more gifted and stronger fighter, left the ring without a scratch and is 1.75 million dollars wealthier. Leonard leaves with $200,000 and not much of a future for the likeable Romanian who recently becama Canadian citizen living in Montreal, Quebec.

Talk of a mega-fight for Arturo against Floyd Mayweather at Olympic Stadium in Montreal next June is in the air. In the meantime, he enjoys his popularity and if anyone deserves it, he does.
